In three years, India will become the world’s youngest country. By the year 2020, India’s average age will come to rest at 29 years.
Taranjith Singh Sandhu, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka said that 64 percent of India’s population will fall in the working age group. While delivering a lecture on foreign policy in Colombo, Sandhu said,
“With western Europe, the US, South Korea, Japan and even China aging, this demographic potential offers India an unprecedented edge which could further contribute to the GDP growth rate.”
He added how India’s foreign policy had become more proactive and is targetted toward meeting the developmental aims of its 1.25-billion strong population.
